Call to Worship:

One:  We come together because we love God;

All:  we love God, because God is there for us all the time.

One:  God is there for us when we prayerfully reach out;

All:  God is there for us when trouble hits unexpectedly.

One:  It is not only these gathered people whom God loves;

          God embraces all people, poor, powerless, afraid, lonely, rejected.

All:  and God is there for us when our confidence crumbles,

        and when it seems that the whole world is against us.

One:  Why God should care for us is beyond our understanding;

All:  but God’s gracious love has held us fast in the community of the

        faithful, and will endure from age to age.

Singing: VU664 What a Friend We Have in Jesus

  1. What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!

What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!

O what peace we of ten forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,

All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

  1. Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?

We should never be discouraged, take it to the Lord in prayer.

Can we find a friend so faithful, who will all our sorrows share?

Jesus knows our every weakness, take it to the Lord in prayer.

  1. Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?

Christ the Saviour is our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer.

Do our friends despise, for sake us? Are we tempted to despair?

Jesus’ strength will shield our weakness, and we’ll find new courage there.

Opening Prayer – written by Ted Dodd

Isaiah 55: 10-13

For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there until they have watered the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, 11so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it. 12For you shall go out in joy, and be led back in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall burst into song, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. 13Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress; instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle; and it shall be to the Lord for a memorial, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

Sharing of Peace

Children’s Time / Music Ministry:  Sergio and Nepali Youth

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy Name,

thy kingdom come,

thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those

who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory,

for ever and ever. Amen.
