Outreach in Service
Knox is committed to being of service to the community, especially the community just outside the doors. The Central Park neighbourhood is blessed with an abundance of wonderful people, but it also has its share of social concerns rooted in poverty.
The focus for the congregation is on outreach initiatives which promote independence, economic development, community and connection and develop local leaders.
Opening the doors of the church through the creation of the Community Hub is a significant way we serve the community.
Prayer Outreach happens every Sunday after the intercultural service. It is a time to greet our neighbours and invite them into a time of prayer and join them in a refreshment. All are welcome to join in this time of outreach. Speak to one of our ministers to learn more.
The Knox bi-weekly Food Bank, serves 100 families a month.
Central Market, an African style market held in the summer months in the park and Rainbow Community Gardens, matching newcomer families with garden plots and supports to garden, are two examples of programs which Knox envisioned and incubated. Knox continues to be involved through a coalition of partners who can offer more direct support to these programs which have grown beyond something Knox can manage itself.
Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you and pray to God on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.
